Description
The Vintage Cooke Varotal Zoom Cine lens is a high-quality, manual focus cine lens that was produced by Cooke Optics in the 1980s. There are two zoom lenses that cover a focal length range of 20-60mm, 18-100mm, and 20-100mm and have an aperture range of T3.1 to T22. These lenses are known for their sharpness, smooth focus and zoom action, and the unique “Cooke Look” that is characterized by a warm, slightly soft image with pleasing bokeh.
One of the features that make these lenses stand out is the VAROTAL name, which stands for Variable T-stop. This means that the lens maintains a constant T-stop (a measure of the amount of light transmission) throughout the entire zoom range, which is a feature that is not found in many other cine lenses of the time.
These lenses are highly sought after by cinematographers and film enthusiasts due to their unique image characteristics and build quality. They are considered vintage lenses now, and are not in production anymore, but still can be found for rental here at Cine Visuals.
