Kowa Prominar Spherical Primes are vintage Japanese cinema lenses born in the 1960s. These vintage lenses offer a combination of characteristics and features not touched by any other offering, especially not with modern housings. With focal lengths ranging 15-100mm, these offer a very comprehensive solution. With sharp centers, and both a resolution AND contrast drop off, these lenses spectacularly highlight the subjects of the frame. With now extinct or impossible to reproduce coatings, the legendary gold single layer coatings of these lenses are exceptionally unique, producing vivid amber and orange flares, and casting skintones spectacularly.
As seen on projects like FX’s “Atlanta”, “Arrival” “Straight Outta Compton” and “Jason Bourne”, these lenses have a rich history and established cinematic language. Use them with either some of our Vintage Cooke Zooms or the Canon K35 zoom for a vintage match. These lenses are available to rent as full or partial sets from Cine Visuals.
