The Leitz zooms provide sharpness across the frame with minimal breathing, balanced and consistent contrast, and faithful skin tones. They produce sharp, clean images with accurate color reproduction, delivering the brandโs hallmark image fidelity. Fall-off is natural, giving subjects dimension, and chromatic aberration is minimal. Their rendering emphasizes depth and natural micro-contrast, giving images a subtle dimensionality often described as โLeica pop.โ They pair seamlessly with Leitz primes for matching color and contrast.
Handling & Adaptability
The Leitz zooms are moderately heavy but well balanced for studio and handheld rigs. Designed for PL mounts with /i metadata support, they integrate easily into modern workflows. Both zooms feature robust housings with consistent 114mm fronts, standardized gear placement, and smooth mechanics.
Flare & Bokeh
Flare is tightly controlled but cinematic, producing subtle veiling when provoked. Bokeh is rounded and elegant for a zoom, remaining smooth and cinematic throughout the range.
Image Circle
These zooms cover Full Frame sensors with a 46.3mm image circle, making them compatible with the Alexa Mini LF, Sony Venice, and RED Monstro and other large-format cameras.
Cinematic Heritage
Built upon more than 170 years of optical and industry experience, the Leitz Zooms were introduced in the late 2010s by Leitz Cine (formerly Leica Cine) as part of the companyโs expansion into high-end cinema optics. Although Leica was historically known for primes, the demand for premium zooms in full-frame cinema drove their development, which positioned Leitz as a competitor to Angรฉnieuxโs Optimo and Fujinonโs Premista series.
