About the Leica 180mm T2.0 Cinema Lens
The Leica 180mm T2.0 Telephoto/Macro Prime combines long-lens compression with true close-up capability, making it a specialized tool for detailed, high-precision cinematography. Covering Super 35, Full Frame, and larger formats, it delivers consistent performance across modern digital cinema systems.
Compatible with Leitz Macrolux diopters, it extends into extreme macro while maintaining sharpness, smooth falloff, and controlled aberration. The lens is designed to integrate seamlessly with Leica ecosystems, matching Hugo, Summilux-C, and Summicron-C sets for consistent color and rendering across a package. Its unique combination of reach and macro flexibility makes it a versatile addition to high-end productions, and it is exclusively available at Cine Visuals.
Image Fidelity & Focus
The lens delivers exceptional sharpness and contrast, even wide open at T2.0. It produces rich, natural color and smooth tonal transitions, hallmarks of Leica optics. Rendering is clean, neutral, and faithful, with smooth falloff that separates subjects beautifully, while telephoto compression adds cinematic impact. Falloff is natural. Chromatic aberrations are nearly absent, reflecting high-end optical engineering.
Flare & Bokeh
Flare control is excellent โ controlled yet cinematic, with subtle veiling when provoked and minimal aberration even wide open. Bokeh is creamy, round and elegant thanks to a circular 16 blade iris, enhancing the three-dimensional feel and making the lens ideal for portraits, product, and close-up work.
Handling & Adaptability
The 180mm is compact and lightweight for a telephoto lens, making it ideal for a wide variety of setups. Its mechanics are precise, with long focus throws for macro work and robust construction for professional sets. It adapts seamlessly to modern digital cinema cameras. Available in both PL and LPL Mounts, the lens is an excellent match with Leitz Summilux-C, Summicron-C, Hugo, and Elsie prime lens sets.
Image Circle
The Leica 180mm T2.0 Telephoto/Macro Prime is built to cover Full Frame and larger formats, with an image circle that is capable of covering even the Alexa 65 sensor.
Cinematic Heritage
The 180mm Leica T2 was developed by Cine Visuals in collaboration with TLS, who did the mechanical housing work on the lens. Combining telephoto and macro capability in one lens addressed a demand for versatile tools. Though relatively new, the 180mm T2.0 has been used in luxury advertising, documentaries, and narrative features where detailed close-ups are required.
