product details

The ARRI/Fujinon Alura Zooms are professional cinema zoom lenses designed to combine the optical expertise of Fujinon and the mechanical and ergonomic standards of ARRI. Robust, optically refined, and fully integrated into modern cinema production, these high-performance zooms integrate seamlessly with ARRIโ€™s Alexa digital cameras while maintaining consistency with ARRI/Zeiss prime lenses. They deliver zoom flexibility without sacrificing the image quality expected in feature filmmaking. The Alura family includes four zooms: a 15.5โ€“45mm T2.8 wide-angle zoom, a 30โ€“80mm T2.8 lightweight zoom, a 18โ€“80mm T2.6 studio zoom, and 45โ€“250mm T2.6 studio zoom. Together, they cover from 15.5mm to 250mm, giving cinematographers a versatile range for everything from wide establishing shots to long telephoto coverage. Available for rental or sub-rental at Cine Visuals.

ARRI/Fujinon Alura Zooms

Image Fidelity & Focus

Aluras are known for their high contrast, strong resolution, and natural color rendition, designed to match ARRI/Zeiss Ultra Primes and Master Primes. Wide open, they retain excellent sharpness across the frame, with only slight falloff at the edges on the widest focal lengths. Stopped down, they deliver extremely crisp imagery, suitable for 4K and beyond. Image fidelity is consistent throughout the zoom range, with minimal breathing, distortion, or focus shiftโ€”critical for cinema applications. Chromatic aberration is very well managed, especially given their zoom nature, and lateral fringing is rarely an issue.

Handling & Adaptability

Alura Zooms feature consistent 114mm or 134mm front diameters, wide focus rotation (up to 200ยฐ+), and robust housings built for demanding set use. Weights vary: the lightweight 30โ€“80mm is about 4.9 lbs (2.2 kg), while the 45โ€“250mm studio zoom weighs closer to 16.5 lbs (7.5 kg). This balance allows the shorter zooms to be handheld or gimbal-friendly, while the longer ones serve studio and crane applications.

Flare & Bokeh

Flare control is excellent thanks to advanced coatings, though when pushed, Aluras create attractive, controlled veiling glare rather than chaotic artifacts. Bokeh is smooth and natural, aided by a multi-blade iris, though it is slightly more geometric than vintage primes. At longer focal lengths (80โ€“250mm), the shallow depth of field produces pleasing subject separation.

Image Circle

The Aluras use PL mounts and cover the Super 35 image circle (~31.5mm), making them ideal companions for ARRI Alexa, RED, and film cameras. Adapters can extend their use to some large-format sensors in cropped modes.

Cinematic Heritage

When digital cinema rose in the late 2000s, many productions needed zooms that could keep pace with prime-level performance. ARRI partnered with Fujinonโ€”renowned for broadcast and cine zoom designโ€”to create the Alura line. These lenses became trusted as workhorse zooms for TV series, documentaries, and features, offering the flexibility of zooms without the compromises of earlier generations. They helped standardize the use of zooms in digital cinema workflows, filling a gap between older Angรฉnieux glass and premium primes.
