About the AngΓ©nieux EZ Zoom Cinema Lenses
The AngΓ©nieux EZ Zooms are lightweight, versatile cinema zoom lenses designed to deliver high-end optical performance in a flexible, production-friendly system. Known for their smooth, cinematic rendering, they produce natural skin tones, pleasing contrast, and gentle focus fall-off, maintaining the classic AngΓ©nieux look while minimizing distortion, breathing, and chromatic aberration. Their image quality rivals many prime lenses, making them a practical choice for fast-paced shooting environments.
A defining feature of the EZ series is its modular design, allowing each lens to switch between Super 35 and Full Frame/VistaVision configurations by changing the rear optical block. This adaptability, combined with compact size, consistent mechanics, and strong close-focus performance, makes the EZ Zooms ideal for handheld, gimbal, and studio work across a wide range of modern camera systems.
Β
Image Fidelity & Focus
Known for their smooth, cinematic rendering, the EZ Zooms produce natural, flattering skin tones, pleasing contrast, gentle focus fall-off, and minimal breathing, with the classic AngΓ©nieux warmth and dimensionality prized by cinematographers. There is no color aberration, even wide open, and like almost all modern AngΓ©nieux zooms, virtually no focus breathing.
Handling & Adaptability
In Super 35 configuration, the EZ-1 offers T2.0 and the EZ-2 T2.0; in full-frame mode, both shift to T3.0, and will cover ARRI Alexa LF, RED Raptor 8K VV and Sony Venice/Venice2. The EZ-3 in FF mode is T3.5-4.5. Compact and lightweight for their class, EZ zooms are ideal for handheld, Steadicam, and gimbal work, yet robust enough for feature films and broadcast productions. With precise mechanics, standard 0.8 pitch gear rings, and consistent front diameters, the EZ series lenses are flexible and durable. Users can easily interchange between PL, RF, EF, and E mounts.
Flare & Bokeh
Flaring is subtle and controlled, but still present and quite beautiful. Bokeh is very soft and smooth, especially wide open.
Image Circle
Each lens features a rear optical block that can be swapped to convert between Super 35 and full-frame/VistaVision coverage, changing both focal length range and aperture while maintaining consistent image quality.
Cinematic Heritage
The AngΓ©nieux EZ series zooms were introduced in 2016. AngΓ©nieux has been at the forefront of innovation in cinema technology since the 1930s, when Pierre AngΓ©nieux worked with French director and pioneer Abel Gance. Today, Pierre AngΓ©nieux is generally credited as the inventor of the modern zoom or variable focal length lens.
