This rehoused Angénieux 28–70mm f/2.6 Zoom covers full frame, and has a much more vintage look than modern Angenieux zooms. It flares bigger, and has a more textured bokeh, and as a result, it pairs very well with many of our vintage primes. Regarded as one of the company’s transitional lenses between the classic documentary-era zooms and the modern high-performance Optimos. Covering the critical mid-range focal lengths—wide establishing shots at 28mm through tight portrait-friendly frames at 70mm—it provides cinematographers with versatility, sometimes replacing three or four primes on the set. Its constant f/2.6 aperture gives filmmakers speed that is unusual for a zoom of its era, while still being compact enough for handheld and Steadicam use.
