TLS Canon FD-X
Image Fidelity & Focus
The optical character of FD-X lenses is known for its balanced performance, combining more controlled optical qualities with classic vintage traits โ the optical softness and subtle chromatic aberration that many cinematographers appreciate for cinematic warmth.
Handling & Adaptability
TLS, widely recognized as superlative, rehouses these lenses into cinema-friendly housings, enhancing their usability on film sets with features like unified focus and iris gears, extended focus throws, consistent front diameters and a more durable build. The rehousing also includes a de-clicked aperture ring for smooth, cinematic iris adjustments, making these lenses versatile and reliable.
Flare & Bokeh
Flare is more subdued compared to earlier FD lenses, though it is still capable of producing a subtle, artistic quality when shooting into light sources, with a warmer and more organic tonality. A 16-blade circular iris ensures bokeh that is creamy and smooth, with a pleasing, rounded quality that contributes to a sense of depth and focus separation.
Image Circle
The image circle comfortably covers full-frame sensors, ensuring compatibility with modern cameras.
Cinematic Heritage
Originally developed for Canonโs manual focus SLR cameras in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Canon FD-X series, with โXโ signifying โextended,โ was created to fill the gaps in the original Canon FD lineup, especially high-speed, full frame-compatible focal lengths including 18mm, 35mm, 45mm, and 70mm options.
