Coral 1.5x Anamorphic primes aim to deliver a modern yet character‑rich anamorphic look in a practical, compact package. Consistent in color and contrast and designed from the ground up (not vintage re‑houses), these lenses use a 1.5x squeeze with an oval iris to create a classic 2x aesthetic, augmented by full-frame coverage, metadata capabilities and service-friendly mechanics. The initial set includes five focal lengths spanning 35-90m (with a 120mm still pending release), all around T2.6–T2.8. Available for rental or sub-rental at Cine Visuals.

Image Fidelity & Focus

Coral lenses offer a clean, organic look—high resolution with attractive fall‑off, producing sharp, film-like imagery with a pleasing aesthetic rather than clinical sharpness. Contrast is moderate, leaning toward a softer, vintage look. Central sharpness is solid, but edges carry intentional softness and swirl. Flares are painterly with warm streaks, giving them a character-first appeal. These primes offer excellent close‑focus performance—down to approximately 0.45–0.52m (approximately 17–20.5 inches)—making them well-suited for intimate, tight-shot work.

Handling & Adaptability

Built with PL mounts and Cooke/i‑metadata support, these lenses are future‑proof and integrate seamlessly into VFX and virtual‑production pipelines. They’ve been engineered for durability, with easy servicing and quick alignment of anamorphic elements. Compact size and weight make them great for handheld, gimbal, shoulder-mounted, and even projector-based alignment setups.

Flare & Bokeh

The flare is refined—organic rather than streaky—with gentle barrel distortion. Fall‑off pleasantly frames subjects, and color fringing is kept under control, producing a cohesive, cinema-ready image. Featuring a true oval iris and a 1.5x anamorphic squeeze, these lenses mimic the 2x squeeze aesthetic in bokeh and lens character, meaning oval highlights and the classic anamorphic feel, while maximizing modern sensor usage.

Image Circle

With an approximately ~46 mm image circle, the Second Reef Coral 1.5x Anamorphic lenses are designed to cover a full-frame image circle, providing the coverage needed for modern digital cinema cameras.

Cinematic Heritage

Second Reef, known initially as a rental house and European optics distributor since around 2019, unveiled the Corals in 2024, marking the company’s shift from rental/distribution to pioneering proprietary optics.
