About the Leitz Hektor Prime Cinema Lenses
The Leitz Hektor Primes are a modern large-format cinema lens set designed to deliver a character-driven image inspired by classic Leica optics in a compact, lightweight form. Built for full-frame coverage and optimized for mirrorless camera systems, they combine contemporary optical performance with a distinctly vintage-inspired rendering.
Hektor lenses are defined by their natural sharpness, medium contrast, and smooth, organic skin tones, with gentle focus falloff that creates a strong sense of dimensionality. Subtle, controlled flare and clean, rounded bokeh maintain subject isolation without distraction, while characteristics such as field curvature and spherical aberration contribute to a look that feels both expressive and familiar. With compact housings, interchangeable mounts, and consistent mechanics across the set, the Hektors are well suited for handheld, gimbal, and lightweight production environments where both image character and flexibility are essential.
Image Fidelity & Focus
The Hektor primesโ optical rendering emphasizes natural sharpness without harshness, medium contrast, and faithful color. Skin tones are smooth and organic, with gentle falloff and dimensionality. Chromatic aberration is minimal, thanks to modern coatings. Image fidelity is high, but with a filmic smoothness rather than sterile sharpness. Non-aspherical designs produce these characteristics naturally. Modern touches include coatings that control veiling glare better than older lenses, as well as significantly reduced chromatic aberration.
Flare & Bokeh
Flares are subtle, controlled, and cinematic. Bokeh is clean and round, maintaining subject isolation without distraction.
Handling & Adaptability
The lenses are compact and lightweight compared to Leitzโs larger Summilux-C or Thalia lines, improving ergonomics for handheld, Steadicam, or gimbal use. Mechanics are cine-standard, with consistent gear placement and reliable focus throw. User interchangeable mount options include E, L, RF and Z for maximum flexibility.
Image Circle
They cover Full Frame and beyond (46.5mm image circle), making them compatible with LF and VistaVision cameras.
Cinematic Heritage
According to Leitz, the look of the Hektors was based on that of lenses from the past 100+ years of cinema and photography history. The name HEKTOR is a reference to the original Leica Hektor lenses created in the 1930s by legendary lens designer Max Berek for Leicaโs original screw mount 35mm cameras. A silver anodized finish, and the inclusion of a 73mm, an iconic lens in the original line, pay tribute.
