Hawk Vantage One4

Prime - Spherical - Full Frame

product details

The Vantage One4 large format spherical primes bring distinctive optical traits and warmth to todayโ€™s expanded sensors. Unique for their extremely fast T1.4 aperture, they offer dramatic, shallow depth of field and expressive bokeh. Wide open, they produce lower contrast, softer resolution, and a dreamy roll-off, but sharpen up nicely when stopped down. Cinematographers can sculpt images in low light or isolate subjects against soft, glowing backgrounds. Theyโ€™re often chosen when filmmakers want expressive optical personality rather than clinical neutrality. Ten focal lengths range from 19mm to 140mm. Available for rental or sub-rental at Cine Visuals.

Hawk Vantage One4

Image Fidelity & Focus

Vantage One4s effectively offer two personalities in one lens. Shot wide open, they deliver dreamy, glowing highlights, soft edges, and extreme subject separation. Stopped down, they become remarkably sharp and contrasty. Colors lean natural, with a slight warmth. Focus falloff is dramatic at T1.4, producing strong subject isolation. Aberrations, such as spherical aberration and minor color fringing, add to their expressive wide-open rendering.

Handling & Adaptability

Mechanically robust, Vantageโ€‰One4s contain no floating elements, no aspherics and no expanders โ€“ only the best spherical elements. Despite their fast aperture, the One4s are compact and lighter than many modern primes, making them practical for handheld and Steadicam work. They feature consistent mechanics and cine-standard housings, though focus pulling at T1.4 requires precision due to razor-thin depth of field. The ability to create both stylized and clean looks in a single set, depending on aperture choice, adds rare versatility. The lenses are available in LPL mount only.

Flare & Bokeh

Bokeh is creamy and immersive, while flare can be bold and pronounced and used creatively without overwhelming.

Image Circle

The image circle ranges from 45mm to 60mm, depending on the focal length.

Cinematic Heritage

Developed by Vantage Film, the One4s were conceived in response to digital cinematographyโ€™s demand for distinctive looks and extreme low-light shooting capabilities. Their dual personality has made them a favorite for projects that want both expressive character and sharp reliability. They hold a unique place in cinema history as some of the fastest and most creatively flexible spherical primes ever made.
