product details
Cooke Anamorphic/i Full Frame Plus 1.8x SF lenses merge two cinematic traditions: the classic, character-driven aesthetic of anamorphic glass and the enhanced high-resolution workflows of contemporary full-frame digital cinema. Sharp yet soulful, bold yet refined, they are chosen when cinematographers want the full anamorphic experience โ oval flares, dimensional depth โ scaled up for modern large-format cameras, without sacrificing the organic warmth of the Cooke Look. The 1.8x squeeze ratio was specifically chosen to yield the classic anamorphic look while optimizing for large-format digital sensors, producing aspect ratios of 2.39:1 or 2.7:1 without excessive cropping. A full set includes eight focal lengths: 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm (Macro), 75mm, 100mm, 135mm, 180mm. Available for rental or sub-rental at Cine Visuals.

Cooke Anamorphic 1.8x
Image Fidelity & Focus
Cooke Anamorphic/i Full Frame Plus 1.8x SF lenses balance modern resolution with a gentle roll-off. They are sharp enough to satisfy todayโs 6K and 8K cameras, yet not clinical, retaining Cookeโs signature warmth and organic rendering. Micro-contrast is slightly softened compared to spherical Cookes, contributing to their filmic tonality. They provide consistent color rendition across the set, with rich skin tones and smooth highlight handling. The falloff from sharp to soft areas is gradual and pleasing, giving images a dimensional depth. Focus breathing is minimal, which is essential for narrative cinematography.
Handling & Adaptability
The lenses are designed with production practicality in mind. They maintain a uniform front diameter of 110mm, with matched gear positions across the set for fast lens changes. Weights vary between 3.5 and 5.5 kg (7.7-12 lbs) depending on focal length, making them robust but not unwieldy for anamorphic primes of this coverage. Their build quality is rugged, with precise 270ยฐ focus rotation and smooth mechanics that make life easier for focus pullers. The Cooke Anamorphic/i 1.8x SF lenses are built with PL mounts standard, but can be adapted to LPL or other mounts as needed. The Cooke /i Technology metadata system is built-in.
Flare & Bokeh
Out-of-focus highlights stretch into classic oval bokeh, contributing to a distinctly anamorphic identity. The rendering is smooth yet expressive, with a subtle swirl at wider focal lengths. The Special Flare version of these lenses was engineered to accentuate anamorphic flare, in response to filmmaker demand and inspired by the popularity of Cookeโs 2x SF series. Bright sources produce bold, elongated streaks and halos with more intensity than standard versions. Chromatic aberration is controlled but not entirely absent, often adding to their character.
Image Circle
With a 46.3mm image circle, these lenses comfortably cover full-frame sensors such as the ARRI Alexa LF, Sony VENICE, RED V-Raptor, and ALEXA 65 (with a slight vignette at wider focal lengths).
Cinematic Heritage
Designed and manufactured by Cooke Optics, these lenses were introduced in the late 2010s, following the success of Cookeโs 2x anamorphic SF line. Among many other shoots, Cooke Anamorphic/i Full Frame Plus 1.8x SF lenses were used on select sequences in Top Gun: Maverick (2022, Claudio Miranda, ASC).
