Aria Impressionism 2x Anamorphic FF Primes are a boutique series of cinema lenses designed in the 2010s to bring expressive, painterly character back into anamorphic filmmaking. Unlike modern anamorphics that are engineered for perfection, the Aria Impressionism lenses are deliberately crafted to emphasize character that recalls the Impressionist painting style. They are rehoused and expanded versions of the legendary Zeiss/Arri Master Anamorphics, and each lens in the set has an aperture of T2.6. The Aria Impressionism set is available to rent or sub-rent from Cine Visuals in nine focal lengths, with more coming soon.

Image Fidelity & Focus

Featuring unique characteristics in color reproduction, light and shadow representation, and flare, Aria Impressionism Primes have moderate sharpness in the center but soften toward the edges, evoking vintage anamorphic glass. Contrast is gentle, giving images a more romantic, analog feel. Focus falloff is pronounced, enhancing subject isolation. Chromatic aberrations are present, but instead of being corrected, they are embraced as part of the aesthetic.

Handling & Adaptability

Though artisanal in design, the Aria lenses are rehoused into cine-standard mechanics, featuring PL mounts, standardized gears, and robust housings. They are heavier than spherical primes but lighter than some vintage anamorphic rehousings, making them manageable for narrative work. A classic anamorphic aesthetic without requiring rare, rental-only glass.

Flare & Bokeh

The lenses flare boldly, producing horizontal streaks and veiling glare reminiscent of 1970s anamorphics. Bokeh is distinctly oval, elongating highlights in the vertical direction and lending a painterly quality to backgrounds.

Image Circle

A 44mm image circle makes these lenses compatible with full frame and large format cameras including the Alexa 65, Alexa Mini LF, Sony Venice 2, and the Red V-Raptor.

Cinematic Heritage

The Aria series was born from the resurgence of anamorphic cinematography in the 2010s, when digital cameras made widescreen aesthetics accessible to more productions. Aria Impressionism primes have been used in independent films, music videos, and commercials seeking a nostalgic, stylized anamorphic look.
