product details
The Optimo line is AngΓ©nieuxβs flagship family of cine zooms, introduced in the late 1990s and 2000s to set a new standard for performance. Filmmakers demanded zooms that could rival primes in resolution and contrast, particularly as sensors increased in fidelity. AngΓ©nieuxβs solution delivered consistent look, performance, and mechanics across the range, and preserved the character of their earlier glass while meeting modern standards, cementing the brand as a leader in cine zooms. Cine Visuals offers lightweight (15β40mm, 28β76mm, 45β120mm) and studio (17β80mm, 19.5β94mm) models. Angenieux Optimo Zooms in full sets, partial sets, or single lenses are available to rent or sub-rent from Cine Visuals.

AngΓ©nieux Optimo Zooms
Image Fidelity & Focus
Optimo Zooms are prized for their ability to deliver prime-like quality in a zoom. They feature high contrast, crisp sharpness from center to edge, and minimal focus breathing. Chromatic aberrations are nearly absent, and rendering is often described as βcreamy yet crisp,β with soft roll-off into out-of-focus areas.
Handling & Adaptability
AngΓ©nieux designed the Optimos with modern production in mind. The lightweight models are compact, typically weighing 4β6 pounds, making them ideal for handheld, gimbal, or Steadicam use. Front diameter of the lightweight models is 114mm; the studio models are 136mm. The larger studio models weigh more but remain relatively compact for their range. All share precise mechanics and consistent gear positions, easing lens swaps on set. Their adaptability across digital cinema formats has made them indispensable.
Flare & Bokeh
Flare is well-controlled but still capable of producing cinematic highlights when provoked, and bokeh is natural and pleasing.
Image Circle
Super 35 coverage at 31.4mm for the 15β40mm, 28β76mm, 45β120mm, and 19.5β94mm. The 17-80mm image circle is 28mm. PL mount.
Cinematic Heritage
The Optimos were developed as a response to the limitations of earlier zooms in the HD era. The Optimo line has been used on some of the most acclaimed productions of the 21st century, including Skyfall, The Revenant, and Game of Thrones. Their versatility has made them a staple of major rental houses worldwide, and they remain one of the most widely trusted zooms in high-end cinema.
