About the DZO Arles Zoom Cinema Lenses
The DZO Arles Zooms are a pair of full-frame cine zooms, the 25-75mm T2.6 and the 65-180mm T2.6, designed to match DZOFilmโs Arles primes. Both hold T2.6 across their zoom range, close down to T22, and are designed to be parfocal. Their ranges overlap between 65mm and 75mm, so two lenses cover 25-180mm with no gap. Each weighs under 1.8 kg (about 3.9 lbs), and DZOFilm says the zooms share the Arles primesโ coating formulation and color science so they cut with the primes.
ย
Image Fidelity & Focus
DZOFilm built the Arles Zooms around a four-group linkage optical system and a quad-synchronized zoom mechanism that it says holds image-field performance, aberration correction, and resolving power steady through the zoom range, even wide open. The 25-75mm uses 22 elements in eight groups, including seven ED and five HRI elements. The 65-180mm uses 20 elements in eight groups, including seven ED and two HRI elements. DZOFilm says these control chromatic aberration and field curvature while holding contrast, and it rates both lenses for 8K resolving power based on its internal testing. Both are designed to minimize focus breathing, with 270ยฐ of focus rotation for accurate pulls. DZOFilm describes the rendering as low in saturation with natural skin tones, and at wide apertures the look is soft and lower in contrast.
Handling & Adaptability
The 25-75mm weighs about 1,767g (3.9 lbs) and measures 178.1mm (7.0 in) from front to flange in PL. The 65-180mm weighs about 1,782g (3.9 lbs) and measures 190.85mm (7.5 in). Both have a 95mm front diameter with an M86 filter thread and 0.8 MOD gears on focus, iris, and zoom, with 270ยฐ of focus rotation and 100ยฐ of manual zoom rotation. Close focus, measured from the sensor plane, is 0.51m (1 ft 8 in) on the 25-75mm and 0.89m (2 ft 11 in) on the 65-180mm. Gear positions and size are consistent across the pair and the Arles primes, so a matte box, follow focus, and lens motors can stay in place when changing lenses. The bodies are aluminum alloy, and DZOFilm lists dust and splash resistance.
Flare & Bokeh
A 16-blade iris, the same one used in the Arles primes, produces circular out-of-focus highlights and smooth transitions between focused and defocused areas. A custom low-saturation blue coating, which DZOFilm says uses the same formulation as the Arles primes, reduces flares and ghosting.
Image Circle
Both Arles Zooms cover a 43.5mm image circle, designed for full-frame cinema cameras and professional video systems.
Cinematic Heritage
DZOFilm launched its first cine lenses in 2019 and introduced the Arles line in 2024 with five T1.4 full-frame primes, growing to an eleven-lens prime series by late 2025. The Arles Zooms extend that system with two constant T2.6 zooms that share the primesโ front diameter, gear positions, 16-blade iris, and coating formulation, so they can be mixed with the primes in one kit.
