Laowa Nanomorph Anamorphic Zooms
Zooms - 1.5x Anamorphic - Super 35
product details
Available in Amber, Silver, and Blue flares.
Venus Optics founded their company on innovative technology brought to the indie filmmaker. Traditionally, anamorphic lenses have been reserved for high budget productions due to their highly intricate builds that lead to their costly reach. One of the most complicated optical challenges is making quality anamorphic zoom lenses. However, after the advent and popularity of the Laowa Nanomorphs, Venus Optics went to work bringing those same optics into an affordable, compact, and beautiful zoom. The result is the Laowa Nanomorph Zoom lenses available in 28-55mm T2.9 and 50-100mm T2.9 focal lengths, also with the three coating styles of silver, blue, and amber.

Image Fidelity & Focus
Optically, the Nanomorph Zooms carry forward the restrained and modern anamorphic character established by the prime lenses. Resolution remains strong throughout the zoom range, supporting contemporary digital sensors while preserving the organic softness that prevents the image from feeling overly clinical. Contrast sits comfortably in the middle range, allowing highlights to bloom slightly and shadows to retain dimensional depth. Colors are rendered neutrally with gentle warmth, giving cinematographers flexibility in shaping the final look during color grading. The anamorphic compression introduces the familiar oval focus falloff that subtly frames subjects within the image. As the focal length changes, the relationship between foreground and background evolves naturally without disrupting the visual identity of the shot.
Handling & Adaptability
Compared to traditional anamorphic zooms they remain impressively compact, making them practical for handheld work, gimbals, and lightweight camera builds. The zoom action itself is smooth and predictable, maintaining parfocal performance so focus remains constant as the focal length changes. Housing dimensions, gear placement, and front diameters are designed to integrate easily into standard cinema workflows. This consistency reduces setup time during lens swaps and allows follow focus motors and matte boxes to remain in place. Like the Nanomorph primes, the zooms support interchangeable PL and EF mounts, giving productions flexibility across cinema and mirrorless camera platforms while maintaining compatibility within the broader Nanomorph ecosystem.
Flare & Bokeh
Horizontal flare streaks emerge when strong light sources enter the frame, stretching across the image with a controlled elegance rather than overwhelming contrast. Laowa continues the series tradition of offering multiple flare personalities through different coating variations, allowing cinematographers to choose between blue, amber, or silver streak characteristics depending on the tone of a project. Bokeh takes on the elongated vertical oval shape that results from the 1.5x anamorphic compression. These ovular highlights contribute to the layered depth associated with anamorphic imagery, gently separating subjects from their environments while maintaining a smooth and cohesive background texture.
Image Circle
The Nanomorph Zooms are designed specifically for S35 capture formats, ensuring reliable coverage across modern S35 digital cinema cameras. Each zoom projects a diagonal image circle of 31mm, providing full illumination across the sensor without vignetting. By maintaining this image circle, the zoom lenses integrate naturally with the Nanomorph prime set and with cameras such as the ARRI Alexa Mini, Sony FX6 in S35 mode, mirrorless cameras, and numerous other digital cinema systems. The consistency of coverage ensures that cinematographers can move between prime and zoom lenses without introducing variations in sensor illumination or field coverage, preserving visual continuity throughout a production.
Cinematic Heritage
Since the founding of Venus Optics in 2013, the company has consistently pursued designs that merge high optical performance with compact engineering. The Laowa Nanomorph prime series demonstrated that anamorphic cinematography could exist in an accessible, lightweight form for S35 productions. Building on that foundation, Laowa introduced the Nanomorph Zooms S35. The goal was to expand the creative language of the original primes while preserving their portability and character. Traditionally, anamorphic zoom lenses have been rare, large, and extremely expensive due to the optical complexity required to maintain a consistent squeeze ratio while zooming. Laowaโs solution was a compact 1.5x anamorphic zoom system designed to integrate seamlessly with the Nanomorph primes.
