This model has been adapted for use by professional cinematographers with an all-new housing and other refinements designed and implemented by Duclos Lenses. Popular as a well-matched companion to Leica R primes, this zoom also compliments other vintage, full frame prime lens sets. Image Fidelity & Focus
The 70–180mm zoom delivers the qualities Leica R primes are known for: rich micro-contrast, beautiful color, and flattering skin tones. Sharpness is excellent across the range – detailed in the center, with pleasing falloff at the edges. Contrast is balanced, and color reproduction is rich and natural. Chromatic aberrations are minimal, even at longer focal lengths.
Flare & Bokeh
Flares are controlled yet cinematic, with added atmosphere when pointed toward light sources. Bokeh is creamy and smooth, with circular highlights that give images a refined quality and compression that flatters subjects.
Handling & Adaptability
In the all-new Duclos rehousing, the 70–180mm is large and relatively heavy, requiring studio support. However, its mechanics are smooth and reliable, with consistent gearing for focus and zoom.
