About the TLS Lomo Round Front Anamorphic Cinema Lenses
Lomo Round Front anamorphics deliver a classic 2x anamorphic image with a more controlled, production-friendly character than earlier Square Front designs. They retain the essential vintage traits cinematographers look for, including oval bokeh, expressive flares, and gentle falloff, while offering improved consistency in sharpness and distortion. The result is a balanced anamorphic look that feels distinctly vintage without becoming overly chaotic or unpredictable.
Rehoused by TLS, these lenses gain modern reliability with standardized mechanics, smooth focus operation, and robust housings suited for professional workflows. Their lighter weight compared to many modern anamorphics makes them practical for handheld and Steadicam use. They are an ideal choice for projects that want authentic anamorphic texture and personality, but with enough control to maintain continuity across a full production.
Image Fidelity & Focus
Round Fronts are cleaner than Square Fronts but still distinctly vintage. They retain oval bokeh, anamorphic flares, and pleasing focus falloff. Contrast is slightly higher than Square Fronts, but still lower than modern anamorphics, with warm tones and subtle halation around highlights. Sharpness is improved, particularly in the center, though edges remain soft. Aberrations are present but less distracting.
Flare & Bokeh
Flare is bold but less chaotic than Square Fronts, with a cooler tone. Artifacts contribute further to the vintage atmosphere. Bokeh is pleasingly soft and classically oval.
Handling & Adaptability
TLS rehousings transform the fragile originals into robust, production-ready tools, while maintaining a quirky, film-era anamorphic charm. PL mounts, standardized gear placement, modern, reinforced mechanics and consistent housings make them reliable on set. They remain lighter than modern anamorphics, making them attractive for handheld and Steadicam use.

Cinematic Heritage
Originally made in the Soviet Union by the Leningrad Optical-Mechanical Association (LOMO), Round Fronts were the result of Soviet attempts to modernize their anamorphic optics to compete with Western glass. While not as extreme as the Square Fronts, they preserve a strong vintage identity.
