product details
DZO Arles Primes are a recent entry into the cine lens market from DZOFilm, introduced in the early 2020s. Named after the historic French city of Arles, these lenses embody a modern approach to cinema optics: fast, sharp, and full-frame—but with intentional cinematic character. Arles lenses are crafted for large-format and full-frame digital cinema, based on an optical philosophy that emphasizes clarity, precision, and adaptability for today’s sophisticated storytelling. The set currently spans 25mm, 32mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm. Available for rental or sub-rental at Cine Visuals.

Image Fidelity & Focus
Arles primes are designed to balance modern resolution with cinematic artistry. They provide high sharpness and contrast across the frame, leaning toward clarity and minimal signature and give clean, detailed center resolution with subtle gentle fall‑off towards the edges. They are suitable for resolutions up to 8K, but avoid clinical harshness, with clean midtones and fine texture in close-ups. Color rendition is neutral and consistent, with accurate fidelity. Contrast is neutral to moderate—not overly punchy, yet offering satisfying separation. Fall‑off from sharp to soft is natural and minimally intrusive, allowing subjects to stand out cleanly without heavy vignetting or abrupt softening, even at wide T1.4 aperture.
Handling & Adaptability
Arles lenses are designed PL‑mount, with rear adaptors for EF, L‑mount, etc., making them flexible across camera ecosystems (ARRI, RED, Canon, Sony, etc.). The short rear design and modularity support magnetic or optical rear filters, including KOOP or Black‑Mist attachments. Their dimensions make them suitable for gimbals, shoulder rigs, and stabilizers—a balanced compromise between heavy full-scale cine primes and ultra‑compact run‑and‑gun lenses.
Flare & Bokeh
Flare control is solid, though the lenses can produce subtle cinematic veiling when shot against strong light. Aberrations are minimal thanks to advanced coatings and optical engineering. With a 16‑blade iris, Arles lenses deliver very smooth, circular bokeh, ideal for romantic highlights and smooth background gradients. The optical design suppresses onion‑ring artifacts, especially in wide angles like 14 mm or 25 mm, while offering pleasing, rounded defocus in telephoto frames.
Image Circle
Arles Primes cover Full Frame/VistaVision formats, with a generous 46.5 mm image circle, making them suitable for large-format digital cameras (Alexa LF, RED V‑Raptor, Sony VENICE, etc.). The wide coverage also supports medium‑format-like setups and partial use on IMAX‑sized sensors with cropping.
Cinematic Heritage
DZOFilm began as a manufacturer of entry-level cine glass but has steadily climbed into the professional market. The Arles primes represent the company’s push into premium optics, competing with established brands like Cooke, Zeiss, and Leitz. They symbolize the shift in the 2020s toward more accessible yet uncompromising high-end lenses.
