Prime - 2x Anamorphic - Super 35
product details
The Lomo Round Front 2x anamorphic primes are the successors to the Square Fronts. Introduced in the late 1970s and 1980s, the Round Fronts offer a slightly cleaner, more versatile take on vintage anamorphic imagery, retaining the oval bokeh and classic blue flares but with smoother distortion and more consistent edge sharpness than their Square Front predecessors. These vintage Lomo S35 2x anamorphics have been lovingly rehoused by the legendary True Lens Services (TLS) out of the UK, and are ready to shoot with all the modern amenities. Classic anamorphic visual qualities are on full display with the Lomos. The set includes 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm and 100mm lenses. Available for rental or sub-rental at Cine Visuals.

Lomo Round Front Anamorphic
Image Fidelity & Focus
Round Fronts are cleaner than Square Fronts but still distinctly vintage. They retain oval bokeh, anamorphic flares, and pleasing focus falloff. Contrast is slightly higher than Square Fronts, but still lower than modern anamorphics, with warm tones and subtle halation around highlights. Sharpness is improved, particularly in the center, though edges remain soft. Aberrations are present but less distracting.
Handling & Adaptability
TLS rehousings transform the fragile originals into robust, production-ready tools, while maintaining a quirky, film-era anamorphic charm. PL mounts, standardized gear placement, modern, reinforced mechanics and consistent housings make them reliable on set. They remain lighter than modern anamorphics, making them attractive for handheld and Steadicam use.
Flare & Bokeh
Flare is bold but less chaotic than Square Fronts, with a cooler tone. Artifacts contribute further to the vintage atmosphere. Bokeh is pleasingly soft and classically oval.
Image Circle
Lomo Round Front 2x anamorphic primes retain the 2x squeeze for Super 35 coverage.
Cinematic Heritage
Originally made in the Soviet Union by the Leningrad Optical-Mechanical Association (LOMO), Round Fronts were the result of Soviet attempts to modernize their anamorphic optics to compete with Western glass. While not as extreme as the Square Fronts, they preserve a strong vintage identity.
