ARRI Macro Primes are a specialized set of lenses designed for ultimate quality in close-up or extreme close-up cinematography, maintaining sharpness at extreme close focus. Available from Cine Visuals in focal lengths of 16mm, 32mm, 50mm, 100mm and 200mm, all of which are capable of achieving 1:1 magnification and optimized for maximum sharpness at macro distances. These focal lengths allow cinematographers to capture tiny objects at true-to-life scale, whether for product cinematography, miniatures, or visual effects work. ARRI Macro Primes can be rented from Cine Visuals as a full set, partial set, or individual lenses.

Image Fidelity & Focus
ARRI Macro Primes stand out for their minimum focus distance, ideal for recording actions or objects located close to the camera. They deliver edge-to-edge clarity even when the subject is just millimeters from the front element. Contrast is high and micro-detail is superb, making them ideal for capturing textures like fabric, skin, or the surface of liquids. Aberrations are carefully corrected, minimizing color fringing and distortion that can plague lesser macro designs. Focus falloff at macro distances is extremely shallow, giving subjects a striking three-dimensionality. Apart from the 100mm T2.8, the set has the consistent T-Stop of T2.1.
Handling & Adaptability
ARRI Macro Primes feature Automatic Iris Control, an invaluable feature that compensates for any light changes or losses experienced when focusing to the extreme throws. Focusing from infinity to a macro position at maximum aperture results in the aperture ring automatically positioning itself at the correct aperture โ eliminating stop-loss guesswork. These lenses match very well with Zeiss Super Speeds, and can even be used alongside more modern Zeiss offerings. Robust housings, consistent gear placement, and long focus throws allow for precise pulling at shallow depths. They are heavier than standard primes due to their complex optics, but remain manageable in tabletop rigs, motion-control setups, and VFX stages.
Flare & Bokeh
Flare control is tight, ensuring precise highlights when lighting small objects. Bokeh is smooth and pleasing, especially at larger magnifications, where backgrounds melt away.
Image Circle
ARRI Macro Primes cover the Super 35 image circle, making them adaptable for most cinema cameras.
Cinematic Heritage
Developed in collaboration with Zeiss, ARRI Macro Primes are workhorses in product and tabletop filmmaking. They were used in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, for instance, to capture detailed miniatures and props with absolute clarity.
